Matter can generally exist in three different physical states. → Solid state: Has a definite volume and shape. → Liquid state: Has a definite volume but takes the shape of the container it is in. → Gaseous state: Has neither a fixed volume nor a definite shape; it always expands to fill the entire volume it is placed in
